Favourite makeup removal methods!

Favourite makeup removal methods!
Taking my makeup off at the end of the day is really therapeutic for me and I wanted to share the different ways that I use to take my makeup off. I don't have a "preferred way" as it really depends on how lazy I am.

1)  Facial wipes: I prefer Wotnot facial wipes ($7-10) as they're alcohol, fragrance and paraben free. I'm not a huge fan of scented facial wipes as it really irritates me. These are really good at removing foundation but it doesn't really take my eyeliner or mascara off very well. I use these as a "pre-cleanse" before I wash my face. I do use other facial wipes but only if I get them for free (like GWP's) because who's going to waste free stuff? :P

2) The Body Shop Seaweed Deep Cleansing Facial Wash ($18.95): If I've forgotten to take my makeup off before I shower at night, I use this facial wash to get it off. I bought this after Sarah from More Than Adored raved about it and I absolutely love it as a cleanser. It's a bonus that it takes off my makeup (inlcuding my eye makeup!) really well. The bottle in the picture above is actually empty but I've already repurchased it as I love it :)

3) Avene Micellar Lotion: I bought this from Priceline recently as I'd read that a few other bloggers had picked it up too. It's basically the same as Bioderma and you just wet a cotton pad with it and wipe it over your face. I've used it a few times and I'm not 100% sold on it because of the price. It's $34.99 (I got it on sale for $27.99) which is kind of expensive as I know that I'll go through it quite quickly when I have to wet like 2-3 cotton pads to clean my face properly. I know people love micellar lotions as you don't have to wash your face afterwards but I have to wash my face as I know that although it feels like the micellar lotion didn't leave any residue behind, my face is always quite slippery when I wash it. It also feels kind of wrong not to wash my face at night. I do have a bottle of Bioderma at home which I haven't touched for like a year and they're very comparable. I can't really tell a difference between them.

I'm heading off to Melbourne next week and I'm looking to pickup a cleansing oil while I'm there. Is there one that anyone can recommend me? And for local Melbourne people, is there anywhere that I should visit (we'll have a car)? :) I was sick when I went last year so I didn't really get to do anything.

And one last thing, does anyone know why Melbourne has so many 7/11's?! I swear there was a 7/11 store like every 100 metres!

  1. I'm a fan of the micellar waters myself and find that avene, bioderma and vichy all compare on the same level but also feel the need to wash my face afterwards. Not because it doesn't feel clean or there is a residue but more of a 'it's not clean until I actually wash it' kind of thing.

As for places to visit here.. definitely the museum and aquarium if you haven't already been and like that sort of thing. If you are looking to shop head straight to the city or even chadstone, you are bound to find what you want there and a whole lot more to burn a hole in your pocket! I recommend heading to a mecca store for a cleansing oil. Pricey but their stock is great!

  3. Yay for the seaweed cleanser! So glad you love it too :) I LOVE those wipes as well it's just a shame they are so hard to get ahold of :/

I just bought the Sanctuary Spa Cleansing Oil but I haven't tried it yet so I can't recommend it... It's in a pretty pink bottle lol.

  5. I agree, wipes are great but they dont do very well with eye make up, I always find random lashes falling out. But I love using it to take off my face makeup!

    1. I like wipes if I'm being lazy but they're hopeless at getting eyeliner and mascara off!

  6. Even if I use a really good cleansing water like Bioderma, etc. I always still need to wash my face after because who knows what dirt or traces of makeup are still remaining on your skin? I need my face squeaky clean before bed!

  7. I would go with the Shu Uemura fresh cleansing oil, it's my HG cleanser and I don't need anything else, although I still double cleanse to be on the safe side. :)

Welcome to Melbourne, I really hope we can catch up in person! I think anon has summed it up perfectly, those places are really lovely to visit.

If you really don't mind driving (and also, depending on how long you'll be around for), you can always do a quick trip to Healesville animal sanctuary (lovely outing and you can stop at the famous Giant Steps bar/restaurant for lunch, be sure to try the Innocent Bystander Moscato), and Dandenong Ranges Sky High to view the Melbourne panorama. :)

  8. I haven't tried any of these products before but I'm liking the sound of the Body Shop Seaweed cleanser! I didn't know Avene made a micellar solution like Bioderma- it definitely is pricey though for a makeup remover! Hahaha Melbourne has a lot of 7/11s because.... well people like their slushies! I'd highly recommend walking around the city, visiting DeGraves St, Hardware Lane for good food. I've heard many great things about the Shu Uemura cleansing oil but it is extremely expensive!
